Keeping Your Skin Cool and Hydrated During Tag Rugby
Let’s be sensible when it comes to staying healthy and keeping melanoma at bay. This is a type of skin cancer that develops in the skin cells called melanocytes and usually occur on parts of the body that’s exposed to the sun.
To keep your skin cool and prevent heat-related issues, especially when playing tag rugby:
Seek Cool Environments: Find ways to stay in cooler spaces when not playing. If you’re in an exposed space find shelter or bring along some type of shade like an umbrella or gazebo, identify areas that don’t receive direct sunlight or seek out public cool zones during heatwaves.
Stay Hydrated: Make sure you drink plenty of water before, during, and after your game to stay hydrated. This is crucial for regulating your body temperature.
Dress Smart: Opt for light, breathable clothing made from natural fibers like cotton or linen. These materials help your body regulate its temperature and wick away sweat, preventing skin irritation. Avoid synthetic fabrics, as they can trap heat and moisture against your skin.
Sun Protection: Always apply sunscreen to exposed skin and consider wearing a hat (within regulations of the rules of tag-generally hard peaked hats to be reversed but soft ones are allowed) to protect yourself from the sun’s harmful UV rays.
Cool Down with Water: Once you get home take cool or lukewarm baths or showers after your game. This helps to lower your body temperature and soothe your skin.
